"Our long term vision is to see The Food Bank become a valued service in our community, touching and changing lives in a positive way"

The Food Bank : Sowing the seeds of love - Based in Milton Keynes

Community Room

The Food Bank is keen to engage with local schools and youth groups, to enable them to learn more about the need in our community and how easy it is for them make a real difference.

Since moving to our warehouse at Stacey Bushes, The Food Bank has set up a “Community Room” which enables schools to bring in groups of up to 12 children – often the school council representatives - and for them to get some hands on experience of the work carried out by our volunteers.

The average session lasts approx 90 minutes, starting with some basic Health & Safety information and an overview of our work and ending with a short DVD and a question and answer session. In between, each child will get the opportunity to take part in sorting and booking in food donations and also of making up a food parcel that will ultimately go out to help a local family in crisis.

To date we have had a number of schools come and take part with the ages of the children ranging from 7 – 16 years and with varying learning abilities. Feedback from both staff and pupils has been very positive and all have been keen to take this learning back to share with their colleagues and to look at what help they can give to support our work throughout the year.

Our aim is to produce a varied program that would link into different parts of the school curriculum to meet the needs of children of different ages.

If you would like to arrange a school visit or to find out more about this exciting new venture, please contact Sue or Helen on 01908 322800 or e-mail
